The Eurovision Song Contest

I don't think I've enjoyed this thing so much since I was a child!

FINLAND WON!!!

It was fucking amazing, I loved it! They did something totally different from the typical formula crap and it worked. I have to admit I'm totally hyped by the whole thing.

GO FINLAND!! YOU RULE!!! \m/

It had to be said though that Wig Wam kind of paved the way for them to enter though. ;)

If it hadn't been for Wig Wam, Lordi would never have gotten to the top. AAAWSOME!

Jupps, totally rockin'!

[identity profile] yeuxdebleu.livejournal.com 2006-05-21 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
Uhmm, I hate to show my ignorance, but what are you talking about here? *looks embarrassed*

[identity profile] tygerx.livejournal.com 2006-05-21 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
I'm gonna have to second that, lol :P

[identity profile] yeuxdebleu.livejournal.com 2006-05-21 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
LOL....good, now I don't feel so out of the loop. ;>D I have at least figured out that it's some type of song contest, organized by country. But I'm curious about how it works.

[identity profile] tygerx.livejournal.com 2006-05-21 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
Heh... well that's one freakay lead singer!

Now i'm trying to figure out why Maria is killing Harry Potter in your icon.. lol ;)

[identity profile] yeuxdebleu.livejournal.com 2006-05-21 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
LOL...I don't think there's a real connection. Someone just took screencaps from SOM and put captions with them. Here's another one. I love it! ;>D I've used it a lot.

[identity profile] tygerx.livejournal.com 2006-05-21 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
hahaa! funny.. :P I do love that movie though.. grew up on it. :)

[identity profile] yeuxdebleu.livejournal.com 2006-05-21 06:04 am (UTC)(link)
I think the only film I've seen more times than SOM is ROTK. O_O

[identity profile] tygerx.livejournal.com 2006-05-21 07:17 am (UTC)(link)
Another good one. :)

As I told [livejournal.com profile] yeuxdebleu

Heh, kind of didn't consider that the Americans on my flist wouldn't know what it was, sorry.

The Euro vision Song contest has been going on for over 50 years. It's only for Europe, the land who wins gets to host it the following year.
Anyway, each country send a artist and song to represent them. Mostly the upbeat and Abba type stuff have won, some ballads. If you've ever heard Kathrina and The Waves' Walking on Sunshine, I believe that was a winner one year.
It's a pretty big deal, rather competitive. Though, it has kine of turned in to a spectacle the last years, the female performers compete more about who can wear the skimpiest outfits than who's the better singer.
Kind of why I was so happy Finland won this year, as it was completely outside the norm.

Any more questions? ;)

Ah I see.. so who is this band in the pic?

[identity profile] roguem.livejournal.com 2006-05-23 01:50 pm (UTC)(link)
That's Lordi, the first hard rock group ever to enter, and the first time winners for Finland. Was awesome, nice distraction from all the Abba and disco wannabes.

[identity profile] tygerx.livejournal.com 2006-05-23 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Gotcha.. well hooray for Finland and hard rock! :D Funny that Abba still goes strong there, heh.

[identity profile] roguem.livejournal.com 2006-05-24 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, it's more the Abba type style of song. It's getting kind of boring.

[identity profile] tygerx.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Yea after 30 years of that I would think so, lol. Although I still do enjoy them.. maybe I only occasionally listen to it. ;)

[identity profile] roguem.livejournal.com 2006-05-26 09:49 am (UTC)(link)
Lol, very true, 30 years is a long time.

Only one: Is this televised? Available on DVD? *2 questions, sorry*

It sounds like fun and I'd love to see it. Thanks very much for the explanation.

[identity profile] roguem.livejournal.com 2006-05-23 01:52 pm (UTC)(link)
It is, in all of Europe.
I don't know if it's on DVD, don't think so. That'd be 51 DVDs though so far if they decided to make them. Lol, should be available with your choice of commentator.
I know there are CDs floating around. Also If you go to any music downloading search engine and enter 'Eurovision' you'll probably end up with quite a few examples.

You're welcome. I'm not a big fan of the show anymore. Was much fun when I was younger and it was taken more seriously, but this year was fantastic.

[identity profile] yeuxdebleu.livejournal.com 2006-05-23 02:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks very much for the info. I'll look around and see what I can find.

[identity profile] roguem.livejournal.com 2006-05-23 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I am collecting some stuff for an entry right now. So if you're patient you'll have loade of examples to choose from. ;)

[identity profile] yeuxdebleu.livejournal.com 2006-05-23 07:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yes, I can be very patient. :>D Thanks.
