Kate Beckinsale has reportedly joined the race to play Wonder Woman in Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon's upcoming comic book movie. The British actress is in negotiations with Whedon, according to movie gossip website joblo.com. Insiders claim Whedon is "very happy" with Beckinsale and confirmed last week that production on his highly anticipated movie adaptation of the popular comic book series will begin filming in early September. Buffy stars Sarah Michelle Gellar and Charisma Carpenter, and teen queen Lindsay Lohan have been linked to the coveted role - which was played on TV by Lynda Carter. Former hot favorite Carpenter even remarked she was putting off having a second baby in the hope of landing the dream role. She recently told a reporter, "I'd like to (have another baby) eventually, but I want Wonder Woman right now. I'm not holding my breath, but I'm crossing my fingers and toes and praying."

NOOOOOO!!!!
Seriously, not a fan of any of the contenders to be honest.

I disagree - Beckinsale is perfect. Go watch the Justice League cartoon and tell me I'm wrong ;)

WW is aloof, a little cold and not blonde or American.

I'm not a big Beckinsale fan though...
Though... as long as Lohan doesn't get it I should be happy.

Where is WW supposed to from?

yuck to Lohan :(

try here - she comes from a mythical island Themyscira in the cartoon (which are amazing - go find a torrent and get S1 of Justice League!)

Cool, well based on that description I'd say Beckinsale is to pale. they need someone with a tan. ;p

I'll have to see if I can get hold of a few JL eps when I get home.

Heh. Just this past week I've seen petitions for Karen Cliche and Krista Allen as well. Just curious, are there any female actresses who *aren't* vying for the part?

Ugh. No. Seriously.

My top choice is Morena Baccarin; but if they don't go with her...I'd much rather they go with somebody who isn't a name at all- like how they got Brandon Routh to be the new Superman.

Yeah, I really don't know how I feel about Beckinsale. But out of the four she seems to be the best fitted for the part.

I could so see Morena Baccarin playing the role. :)

I agree with you. None of them should get the part. Give it to someone fairly unknown, or at least to an actress who can ACT!
Lohan is too young, Carpenter & Gellar just want the role as it can boost their carreer and Beckinsale just doesn't fit. That's just my opinion..

I thought it said Kirstie Alley there for a moment...
*goes to check who they are*
As I've never seen them in anything before they already rank high on my list.
Am liking the idea of Morena Baccarin though. However it depends on Joss and if he wants to go with someone he knows or try something new.

I think everybody wants in, can't really blame 'em though.

Oh, now that is an idea I can get onboard with. I think Morena would be great. She's not overly known outside the Browncoat crowd, so she is technically an unknown...

Charisma...? Gee, that´s why I´m happy there is a name law in this country!

Then again - got an e-mail today from some fella named HØLJE! First name, not kidding. It´s time we sharp in on that law.

I just don't like her... Can't put my finger on the reason, but she bugs me.

I like that idea though. Morena would be good. :)

Morena Baccarin?
People have been suggesting her, and I like the idea. Especially considering Wonder Woman is from some exotic Island.
I think Gellar is doing well enough that she doesn't need the part.

LOL, very true.
Seriously? Hølje? LOL.
I think the law has been loosened somewhat in recent years.

Actually, I think the Kate Beckinsale rumor is an April Fool's Joke according to [livejournal.com profile] mariloli.

I can't see the other contenders as WW either but I don't really judge until teaser trailers and promotional stuff is out. I also heard Jessica Alba at one point. It'll be interesting to see who is actually cast. :)

I know! Like my colleague said today: Parents need to understand that naming kids it not an outlet for them to be creative! Let´s put up a list of 200 names for each gender. You have to pick a name from that list, if not - leave the country!
;o)

Lol, yeah. Though everybody having the same name can be boring too. 200 names to choose from is to little.

The story was listed after April 1st... at least the one I found. Maybe the origin is an april fool's joke. I hope so!

I agree, I'm not a big fan of the contenders so far. Some people have suggested Morena Baccarin, I'm liking that idea.
Am looking forward to this film though. Really hope Joss can make something amazing, so he finally gets the recognition he deserves.

OMG. That Lynda Carter woman is, like, 6 years older than my mum, and she's still thinking of having a baby?

OMG.

That, and she's just waaaaaaaaaay too old...
