roguem: (X-Men - Wolverine looking down)
[personal profile] roguem

This review is spoiler free.

This review is spoiler free.

I have to admit I'm kind of conflicted about this film, there were parts I liked and there were parts I didn't like. I had kept my expectations as low as possible beforehand. I knew there were new people working behind the scenes, and I knew all about Brett Ratner and his previous work. However I don't blame him for the parts I didn't like, I have to admit I'm still kind of blaming Bryan Singer for leaving before finishing the job. Silly and petty I know, but I love the first two movies so much.
Brett Ratner did a good job, he did, if there's any fault I'm more inclined to blame the scriptwriters.

There are so many new characters, of course some minor, so we knew we wouldn't get to know them very well, but Angel... whom I was really looking forward to seing is more of an extra than a major player. They really could have done something great with his character, and I'm really sad that they didn't take full advantage of his potential. I don't consider this a spoiler, more a warining to those eagerly awaiting him to tell them that he doesn't really have a lot of screen time. This happens to other characters too, some that we've known and loved in the previous two movies, I was kind of sad to see how they were treated by the scriptwriters, and that they were pushed aside.
The main trouble is that they had to little time to cram all of this in, they had a really interesting and exiting storyline to deal with, and I don't really feel that they used it to its full potential. Also, what I've loved about the previous two is the links to prejudice and rasism, and how that was conveyed. It's still there, but maybe not handled with the same kind of care that the previous two movies have done.

Okay, I know that's a lot of negativity, but it boils down to my love for the previous films. However, it's not as bad as I might be making it sound. The characters that the focus was put upon were nice to see, I loved the fact that Storm got to go a bit crazy too, seing her actually getting to fully use her powers. Wolverine kicking ass is always fun, and he did get to kick quite a lot of it. The film is a full packed action ride, which I always enjoy. We get to see different aspects of the characters, they've evolved and that was a treat to see.
I really liked Beast, his introductory scene was subtle and good, I enjoyed it, and his little convo with Wolverine upon their first meeting was very enjoyable.
I rarely say this about a film, but as stated above, I would have really liked it to be longer. So much cool stuff that was going on, I wanted more.

One thing I have to let you know, not all of the spoiler pics and trailers give a true impression of what is going to happen in the film, for example one line that I loved was dramatically changed in the film, basically turned into something different. I was okay with it though. There were also some pictures floating around of stuff that never happens in the film. That's all you need to know.

It seems I've focused on the negative in this review, but it's not all that bad, I need to let things sink in a little bit. I did enjoy this film, it was a fun ride, and I will definetly buy the DVD, and watch it in the cinema at least once more.
As I said, I need some time for it to sink in, then I can go watch it again fully knowing what to expect, which I think will be beneficial.

Did you sit through the end credits? I liked that part..
Even though they say this was the last film, it's still open for at least one more. And that does not conclude what happened after end credits. But just before them.
Angel should have gotten more screen time!

There is going to be a 4th one, they've said so. This might look like a closed ending, but there were a lot of loose ends.

I did sit through the credits. I knew what it was all about the second the scene began though. Liked it.

He should I totally agree, he was a good character and they should have used him.

We'll have to go see it when you come home. Maybe it's in theatre 1 by then..
Går du in på fvn.no vil du finne en bildeserie fra filmen. Mange bra bilder.

just a few thoughts about angel.

Personally. I don't mind the fact that Angel didn't get more screen time than he did. Cos the way I see it.. Where would they fit him in? He's been with the x-men for less than 48hrs, when they leave for the big epic battle. You don't include anyone on the team you've never worked with before. That's suicide, cos you don't know each others strong -weak points. Also, Warren has more than lightly never been in a fight his entire life.. He would be of no use. So the scenes he could have had would have been 'poor me. Pity me' scenes where they ask him who he is and what he can do etc. But there's no time for it...

Perhaps he'll get more screen-time in the next movie..?

I liked that he swooped in, but I figured since they were introducing him in this film, he'd have more to do. I get that they wouldn't invite him along, but this did involve his father! He could have given info or something.

I hope so.

Info about what? The layout of the building? How his daddy liked his coffee? 'My dad made the cure because of me'?

Wolverine knew Magneto and his gang were gonna 'steal' the "cure" The x-men were gonna do their best to stop it.

There really wasn't much Angel could provide information-wise that would have been helpful me thinks.

I dunno.. I think I have trouble with Warren cos he was mean to Gambit.. Hehe.. I'm insane..

I would have liked a longer movie. Cant understand why they made it so damn short..

Thanks so much for making a spoiler free review! *is relieved*

I really need to prepare myself for this film, cuz I also love love the 1st and 2nd soooo much! I knew that not everyone would get alot of screen time, but I at least thought Angel would! *is a little disappointed*

I can't wait to see it tomorrow! ^__^

Thanks again for the little review. :)

I loved the first two movies and i'd i'm really concerned about the third film, i mean i heard that Wolverine whacked Jean like killed her or something to that effect. I've read the comic books since i was a kid, watched the tv show, seen the movie, I'm really critical of things so i'm hoping to not be disappointed by this all.

Awww, Gambit for the next film! Because there will be another one.
Naw, I get that feeling, but I guess what I was left feeling is that because of Angel having such a small part they might as well have taken a smaller character than him, so we wouldn't have all these expectations around it.

Me neither, but I'm guessing since the premiere date was set when Vaughn was still attached to direct... Brett came in late and therefore had less time to make the film with.

You're welcome. I knew I couldn't start on a spoiler review, cos then I'd be up until 3a.m. rambling about every single detail I could remember.

Yeah, I had a slight warning beforehand, but didn't think it would be that little. Hopefully he'll get his chance to shine in the next one, because there will be a next one!

Hope you enjoy it! :D

You're very welcome.

I actually downloaded and watched both the animated series around the time X2 was released. Got a lot of info there, and that's also how I know a bit about Phoenix. I'd expected a little more on the Phoenix front, but it was cool.
I haven't read to many of the comics, I'll admit, but they tend to loose a little in the Norwegian translation...
I hope you get to see it soon and that you enjoy it.

Yeah there is ton's of information there for you to pick up on. Hopefully i'll get to see it sometime this week and i won't be disappointed by it. Oh that sucks if i had any of my comics left i would send them to you. But the phoenix *aka jean* is alright in the end they save her. So this better be good or i'm hunting down some cast and crew thats for sure.

If you're not happy hunt down Bryan Singer for leaving us.
I hope you enjoy it. I liked some of the twists at the end.
As I told [livejournal.com profile] isil80 the ending might feel like it brings closure, but it's leaves things open for so much more, which I love. And remember to stay until the end of the credits!

I know they were thinking of doing a wolverine movie which would be cool. I will stay until the end. Does bobby leave rogue for shadowKat??

*stomps feet* Damn, I wanna see it so bad! There was a benefit gala premiere of the film last Thursday, I heard it was a success. Mom and I were talking and she mentioned she wanted to see it, she's been a fan since the old cartoons back in the 90s.

Midnight show was craaazy.. and the work day after was actually not so bad after all! Going to an opening show full of rabid fanboys/girls is always an experience, heh. I'm having mixed feelings about the movie too, but am going for a second viewing on Monday. Will write out my review after that. There were just characters I felt got really shafted on screen time like you said and that's what disappointed me the most. But I did enjoy it for the most part, the drama, action, BEAST! and especially & always my Wolvie! :) I did read your little review here before going and I know we ALWAYS see eye to eye on movies so was a bit concerned, dang.. lol. But yea everything you said I pretty much felt. It was kinda disconcerting to have some lines and scenes changed.. hrm. My friend has been so good at not watching ANYTHING except the trailer.

It's closer to the comic book feel, that much I'll give him. But then again I loved the whole thing Bryan did with trying to make it feel real.
The Wolverine movie is in pre-production as far as I've heard, and they're planning a Magneto movie.
I'm not telling, you'll have to see for yourself.

Glad you had fun. I love going to the fanboy/girl screenings, they always have the best vibe.
It does need a second viewing. It's just like when I saw FOTR for the first time, I focused a little too much on what wasn't there, but the second time I could enjoy what was included, and I'm sure it'll be the same with X3. I also have to get used to Brett's style.

Now all we can do is wait for the Wolverine movie and X4. :)

I was very upset with this movie!Afew reasons I didn't like it

A-The way Erik/Magneto treated Mysique(Sp?)

B-There were not as many witty comments as I was hoping for

C-Their eigther killed everyone off or messed them up-NOT HAPPY!

D-WTF!They made Rogue and wimp by making her do what she did!

E-I HATE Kitty,I have Jean and Ororo too.But Kitty I realy HATE! I guess I'm protective of Rogue's feelings, cause im so much like her. Anyone who gets to close to Logan I dislike.

F-Bobby needs to learn a few things about girls and stop being such a jerk!

G-Did you see the chess piece move? ::GASP:: maybe its not over for Rogue. ::shifty eyes::

H-I knew what was coming at the end of the credits.I knew from the begining. Not a huge surprise.

I-I made a joke during the movie that caused the person next to me to spit their icey out of their nose. I said.

"They must be running out of blue paint."

"Why?"-Friend

"Cause they don't have Nightcrawler in it and Mysique isn't mutant anymore. And the only part of beast you see are his arms, head and hands."

"What does that have to do with anything?"-Friend

"I'm just saying that we might see nightcrawler come back to be purple."

J-Has anyone noticed how Bobby never did anything sweet for Rogue..AT ALL,but always charms Kitty. ::EVIL GLARE!::
::Friend laughs and spits frozen drink out of nose, cold nose!::
