roguem: (Supernatural - Dean Rock On)
[personal profile] roguem

Finally I'm going to get down my thoughts on Salvation. It contains pictures and quotes, so yes, there are spoilers.
This is not gonna be dial up friendly.

Okay, had to code this some way, regular writing is more in recap style, italics are my views on it, and bold is plotpoints. Hope that helps. ;)

John has realized where the demon will strike next and the Winchesters head there to stop the next killing. But Meg begins killing John's friends and demands the Colt or she'll keep going until everyone John knows is dead.

Come on people, we all know what has happened!

John: So boys.
Sam: Yes sir.
John: You ignored a direct order back there.
Sam: Yes sir.
Dean: We saved your ass.
John: You’re right.
Dean: I am?
John: It scares the hell outta me. You two are all I’ve got, but I guess we are stronger as a family. So, we go after this damn thing – together.
Dean and Sam: Yes sir.

Blue Earth, Minnesota.
We're in a church, and lo and behold there's a priest. Doesn't take long for the clever crowd to figure out it's Pastor Jim.
Meg enters, and it dawns on us all that he's the canadian extra of the week, and will not live to see the opening.

Meg puts on an innocent act, and asks for guidance. Which Jim is happy to give, because he's such a nice guy.

Pastor Jim: I like to say, salvation was created for sinners.

But Meg doesn't really want to become a better person, so she turns alien on him.

Meg: Well, I’ve lied... a lot. I’ve stolen. I’ve lusted. And the other day I met this man – a nice guy, you know? And we had a really good chat...sort of like this. Then I slit his throat and ripped his heart out through his chest. (her eyes turn black) Does that make me a bad person?
Pastor Jim: I know what you are. You can't be here. This is hallowed ground!
Meg: Please, maybe that works in the minor leagues, but not with me

Jim freaks out, and understandably so, this man ain't stupid, he knows what's coming

So Jim runs down to the basement, where he has his awesome stash of weapons and other demon killing tools. It doesn't help him much though, Meg isn't far behind.
He flings a knife at her, but that wasn't very smart as she manages to grab it, and slah his throat. Poor, poor Jim, we hardly knew thee.

It's kind of sad really. This is one of the people that's been mentioned several times, and that I'd hope we'd meet at some point, just to see how they would work together with the boys or help them out in some way. Just sad to see him go really. I guess we'll have flashbacks though.

Time for the real fun to get started.

We get a tour of the John Winchester mansion, klippings and notes all over the place, and the gun. John is filling the boys in on whet he's discovered. Turns out the demon came out of hiding a year back, and has been going after families on the day their kid turn 6 months old. Of course this news makes Sam a bit angsty.

Sam: So mom's death? Jessica, it's all because of me?
Dean: We don't know that, Sam.

Dean snaps right into his protective-big-brother-mode, He will not let Sam believe that it's his fault.
I love it when Dean gets like this, just another one of his ways to protect his family. Sam will always wonder, and there's no denying that the demon came for him, but that doesn't make it Sam's fault, and that's what Dean so desperatly is trying to get Sam to understand.

Dean: For the last time, what happened to them is not your fault!
Sam: Yeah, you're right, it's not my fault, but it's my problem!
Dean: No, it's not your problem, it's our problem!
John: Okay, that's enough.

The boys cool down, and John fills them in on how things work, the signs that pop up before the demon attacks, and that he's checked it against the previous attacks. He's figured out where the next attack is going to take place. So it's time to hit the road, and figure out which family it's going after.
So they jump in their awesome cars and head to Salvation, Iowa.

Uhm, now, english might not be my first language, but loto? Shouldn't that be lotto?
Suddenly Truckzilla  stops at the side of the road, the Impala follows of course. John has gotten the news about Jim's death and is taking it pretty badly. All the clues point toward the demon, so now they have to work fast. They'll go to all the hospitals in the area looking for kids that are going to turn 6 months old.

John: This ends now, I'm ending it.

Okay, I liked this scene, John showing a more vunerable side. When Sam says that there's a lot of records to go through I kind of wanted to slap him. John's just gotten some horrible news, if anything this is when you shut up and listen to what he says. And since when has Sam been scared of doing research?
They jump back into their cars, and drive to Salvation, where they split up and check the hospital records.
And we get to see how each of the guys work, and what they do to get the records.

John and Sam get right down to business, but of course Dean meets a pretty girl and gets distracted. The girl kind of looks like Sarah though, but I guess it's just her cousin, who must just have gotten back from a visit, because she's stolen Sarah's top.

Cute Girl: Hi, is there anything I can do for you?
Dean: Oh god, yes.

Dean manages to get his mind on work, and pretends to be a police officer. Which makes Sarah's cousin wonder if she's working behind the wrong desk.
I loved this, seeing John's collection of fake ID cards, a little look into how he does things as well. Sam seems just to have charmed his way into the hospital, while Dean goes for the cop cover, I just wish he'd put on the uniform. *sigh*

Sam has finished his research early and decides to go for a little walk, when suddenly it's 'vision-time'.

It's a mother with her baby, maybe they're in danger? The size of Sam's migrane says so.
Sam got some clues from his vision and manages to narrow down the area where the demon might attack.

The the post vision migrane is bugging Sam when he suddenly sees the mother with the baby, what a lucky break!

Sam goes for the crazy baby loving neighbour, and manages to pump the mom for some info. Why ,yes, the baby is quiet, and nice, and may have mind reading abilities, and you know what? She's 6 months old today! It's too good to be true!
This struck me as kind of too lucky, but to be honest I was busy freaking over Sam's behaviour. I dunno, I think he gives off kind of a crazy vibe during that scene. Could also be because I knew he was in pain, and kept expecting him to get another vision while talking to her.

After the mother leaves Sam, he's hit with another vision, this time he gets more info, and there's no doubt left who the next victim will be.
Back at the motel room of the week John is trying to come to terms with this exciting news. He's a bit thrown by the news that his boy is a psychic.

John: Alright, something like this starts happening to your brother, you pick up the phone and you call me.
Dean: Call you? Are you kidding me? Dad, I called you from Lawrence, alright. Sam called you when I was dying. I mean, getting you on the phone, I got a better chance of winning the lottery.
John: You're right. Although I'm not real crazy about this new tone of yours, you're right.

I liked this scene, though I though John knew about Sam from 'Home'. Though John might not have been paying attention to Missouri, he seemed pretty deep in thought back then. Anyway, I like this scene, and I love the fact that it's Dean that yells at him when John says they should have called him. Now I like John, but the man needs to hear these things. It's also good to see Dean stand up to him. Though I always love authority-Dean.

Now that John actually admitted he was wrong, Sam's phone rings and disturbs the nice moment. At first he doesn't understand who it is.

It's Meg, come to wreck the day. Little bitch is kind of holding a grudge about that whole being thrown out of a window thing, yeah, and she wants to talk to John.

I have to say that I love that the first thing Dean does when he hears it's Meg is to look out the window.
Also I think the way Sam holds his phone is kind of weird, but that's not important.
Meg wants to talk to John, Sam acts like he doesn't know who she's talking about, but Meg won't have any of it. She wants to talk to John. In the end Sam gives in and passes the phone to his dad.

John: This is John.
Meg: Howdy John, I'm Meg.

Turns out that Meg is at Caleb's place, and has Caleb tied up.
Another guy we'll have to learn more about in potential flashback episodes. *Sigh*

Of course hearing Caleb's name makes the boys worried.
John tries to get Meg to let Caleb go. Meg wants the Colt, John acts like he has no idea what she's talking about, but Meg ain't stupid. She slits Caleb's throat and asks for the Colt again. Apparantly by having the Colt, John has declared war, and Caleb is now a casualty of that war.

John: I’m gonna kill you, you know that?
Meg: Oh, John, please – mind your blood pressure.

Meg says that she'll keep killing off his friends until John gives them the gun. John, being a man that cares about his friends well being agrees to hand over the gun.

Meg: The corner of Wabash and Lake.

She wants him to come a long way. John says it'll take a while to get there, he's got till midnight, and he has to come alone.

John fills Dean and Sam in on the plan, he's going to Lincoln, they have to deal with the Demon. Of course the boys are worried about just handing over the gun, but daddy Winchester has a plan. They'll get a copy that he'll bring to Meg, while the boys use the real gun to save the family in danger and kill the Demon. Dean's not to happy with this plan, he's worried about daddy. John says that they and some vamps are the only ones who knows what the gun looks like, and this way he'll be able to buy some time.

Sam: You mean for Dean and me? You want us to stay here? And kill this demon by ourselves?
John: No, Sam. I wanna stop loosing people we love. I want you to go to school, I want, I want Dean to have a home. I want Mary alive. I just... I just want this to be over.

I loved this part, letting John show more of his vurnerable side, and that he mentions Mary speaks volumes. Deans quiet reaction to the whole thing, his expression says enough. So sad.

Dean's the one who's been sent out to get the replica gun. While Sam and John are doing inventory.
Dean had to get the blood in 'Dead Man's Blood' too, maybe sending Dean out to do the errands is John's way of trying to spend some time with Sam, to reconnect with him?

Dean is still not to happy about John going on his own, but he hands over the gun anyway. John reassures him that his trunk is full of weapons and that he'll be able to handle Meg on his own.

Dean: Dad.
John: What?
Dean: Promise me something.
John: What's that?
Dean: If this thing goes south, just get the hell out. Don't get yourself killed alright, you're no good to us dead.
John: Same goes for you.

Awwwww, Dean. He does really worry about his family.

So John takes the fake gun and gives the real one to the boys, impart some words of wisdom before he jumps in Truckzilla and goes to meet Meg.

The boys are left behind and are very sad. Daddy's leaving again, and they're on their own.

John arrives at his destination and scopes the place out. Just to get the general layout in case he has to get out of there fast.

Meanwhile in Salvation the family in peril is being stalked by two young men in a black car, and they have a gun.

But not to worry, it's our boys, looking out for the familiy's well being. They're trying to come up with ways to get the family out of the house before the demon arrives.

Sam: Maybe we could tell them there's a gas leak, that might get them out of the house for a few hours.
Dean: Yeah, and how many times has that actually worked for us?
Sam: Yeah. (long pause) We could always tell them the truth.
Sam and Dean: (in unison) Naaah.

Sam: I wonder how Dad’s doing.
Dean: I’d feel a lot better if we were there backing him up.
Sam: I’d feel a lot better if he were here backing us up.

Daddy is busy setting traps for Meg, and making sure he'll get out of there in one piece. Meg arrives as he's putting the finishing touches to his trap.

The boys are still on stakeout. Nothing exiting is happening yet, so they share a little heart to heart.

Sam: Dean, uh, I want to thank you.
Dean: For what?
Sam: For everything. You've always had my back, you know. Even when I couldn't count on anyone, I could always count on you. And, uh, I don't know, I just wanted to let you know, just in case.
Dean: Whoa, whoa, whoa, are you kidding me?
Sam: What?
Dean: Don't say just in case something happens to you, I don't want to hear that freaking speech, man. Nobody's dying tonight, not us, not that family, nobody. Except that demon. That evil son of a bitch ain't getting any older than tonight, you understand me?

I love this scene. Eveytime authority-Dean snaps in I love it. Sam is quick to think of what might happen, but Dean doesn't want to hear that. He's not going to let either Sam or John die for this thing. I'm sure that if John hadn't let them come along in the first place that they'd followed him.

Meg and John finally meet. They snark a bit and then it's down to the serious business.

However Meg has invited another guest to the party.
Since he doesn't have a name, I'll just call him MaleMeg.

MaleMeg doesn't say much, but it's time for John to hand over the gun, now all he has to do is hope that they think it's the real thing.

Meg hands the gun over to her friend. John is a bit uneasy, MaleMeg doesn't seem too trustworthy.
But then MaleMeg does something that will make me love him forever.

He shoots the fucking bitch!!!

Even John can't believe what just happened, and Meg's not too happy about it either.

Meg: You shot me! I can't believe you just shot me!
MaleMeg: It's a fake.

John is still a bit freaked by the whole thing, and maybe wasn't quite expecting to have Meg's attention turn so quickly back to him.

Meg: You're dead, John. Your boys are dead.
John: I've never used the gun, how could I know it wouldn't work?
Meg: I am so not in the mood for this, I've just been shot!
John: Well then, I guess you're lucky the gun wasn't real.
Meg: That's funny, John. We're gonna strip the skin from your bones, but that was funny.

Oh how I loved MaleMeg for shooting Meg. Seriously. I was 2 seconds away from yelling 'fuck yeah!' when he did that. I did enjoy the entire scene though, John seemed a bit nervous when MaleMeg showed up, doesn't look like he expected anyone else than Meg to show up.
After his cover is busted John doesn't hesitate and gets the hell out of there. Leading Meg and MaleMeg to one of his ingenious traps.

It's the demon repellant sprinkler system, at sale at your local walmart for $99.99
Meg and MaleMeg aren't too happy about this, John however is very pleased.

I liked this, and we actually got to see John smile *gasp*
I know some have wondered why the holy water worked when Meg was able to enter the church at the beginning of the episode, I have two theories, one is that holy water is more powerful than a church, or that the chant John did when he put the cross in the water put some extra kick to it.

Back at the Impala motel, dean is desperatly trying to get John on the phone. The boys are worried.

But before the boys can get ahold of their dad, things start to happen, and they know it's go-time.

While Dean and Sam are getting ready to storm the house, John discovers that Truckzilla's tires have been punktured, so he starts running.

Dean and Sam have entered the house, everything seems quiet, for now.

Suddenly baby-daddy jumps out and attacks Dean, he thinks the boys are trying to rob the place. Dean tries to convince him that they're there to help them. Baby-daddy yells that mommy has to get the baby. Sam runs up to save her.

But the DEMON has already started it's twisted ritual, and things doesn't look to good for mommy.

Sam busts in just in time to look the thing in the eyes.

He's a little thrown, finally standing face to face with the thing. Sam shoots and misses. He's saved the family, but is not happy that the Demon got away.

Dean pushes past Sam and mommy to get the baby, while Sam helps mommy out of the house just as the crib bursts into flames.
Dean skin!! Okay, so it was for a split second, but still.
I liked this part. I never had any delusions that they'd actually be able to kill the damn thing, not now anyway. Sam had his chance, but I honestly think that John should be the one to actually kill it when it comes to it. Him or Dean. Sam needs to get rid of the guilt before I'll think he can do it.

Back in demon town, John is having some trouble. He thinks he's safe and tries to call the boys, but suddenly he's flung against the wall.

MaleMeg has pinned John against a wall, things are not looking to good at all.

Back in Salvation the boys are just getting out of the house, baby-daddy is still not convinced that our boys are good guys but mommy tells him to leave them alone and that they saves her and the baby from surten death.

Awww, Dean carrying baby.
Then Sam sees that the Demon is still in the house.

Sam tries to get back in to the house again, but Dean won't let him.

Dean in protective-big-brother-mode. Have I mentioned that I love that? As much as he rags on Sam he's not going to let him risk his life for this thing. Oh. Dean. *sigh*

The boys have returned to their room after their mission. Sam is sulking, he is not happy at all that Dean stopped him from getting back in the house to get to the Demon.
Dean on the other hand is desperatly trying to get John on the phone.

Dean can't get John on the phone and he's worried, Sam is done sulking and is ready for a fight.

Dean: Sam, I wanna waste it. I do, okay? But it's not worth dying over!
Sam: What?
Dean: I mean it! If hunting this demon means you getting yourself killed, then I hope we never find the damn thing!

Sam is not happy with Dean at all and slams him against the wall.

Dean: You said yourself once, that no matter what we do, they're gone and they're never coming back.
Sam: Don't you say that, not you, not after all this, don't you say that!
Dean: Sam, look. The three of us, that's all we have. And it's all I have. Sometimes I feel like I'm barely holding it together, man. And without you or Dad...
[Sam lets Dean go.]
Sam: Dad. He should have called by now.

Awwww, Dean! The irony here is that he's telling Sam the he shouldn't sacrifice himself for this thing, when Dean is always the first to sacrifice himself in all the other episodes. It's still true though, running into a burning house thinking you'll have a chance is not the smartest thing ever.
Dean tries to call John again, but gets a nasty suprise when the phone is answered. It's Meg, informing them that they've got John, and the boys will never see him again.

Meg: You boys really screwed up this time.
Dean: Where is he?
Meg: You're never gonna see your father again.

I was so happy I had the next episode ready and waiting, because having to wait another week would have probably just killed me.

Not as snarky as the Provenance one, but I hope it was enjoyable anyway. :)
