roguem: (Drugs Dylan Moran Quote)

It dawned on me a little too late that not everybody on my flist would know what the Eurovision Song contest it.
So as I told them: The Euro vision Song contest has been going on for over 50 years. It's only for Europe, the land who wins gets to host it the following year. Anyway, each country send a artist and song to represent them. Mostly the upbeat and Abba type stuff have won, some ballads. If you've ever heard Kathrina and The Waves' Walking on Sunshine, I believe that was a winner one year. It's a pretty big deal, rather competitive. Though, it has kind of turned in to a spectacle the last years, the female performers compete more about who can wear the skimpiest outfits than who's the better singer.
Also originally each country had to sing in their own language, but that was changed in 1998 or 1999, and now everybody can sing in which ever language they choose. Most seem to favour English. It's all done live, no playback.

I was asked if there are DVDs of the show, and as I don't think there are I decided to go have a look at YouTube and bring you all some clips. Memories for the ones who have seen it before, and a taste for those who have no idea.
