This episode was big, it took a while to clear my thoughts, but here is my review:
Yay, our show is back! And we get to know more about what’s really going on.
I liked Scott, he seemed like he was really fighting the Demon’s demands. He didn’t want to hurt anybody. I felt sorry for the guy. Sam and Dean could have helped him.
I was halfway expecting the Demon to come out of the shadows when he was walking down the street, when he actually got stabbed; my first hunch was that the psychiatrist did it.
The secret.
Dean: (Dad) said that he wanted me to watch out for you, take care of you.
Sam: He told you that a million times.
Dean: This time was different. He said that I had to save you.
Poor Dean! It must have been so hard for him to carry something like that around, and then having to tell Sam the truth, that he might have to kill him! No wonder our boy’s been a powder keg.
And Sam, I would have been freaked too, but it’s not Dean’s fault. He was doing what John asked him.
Dean was the one who was breaking my heart here though, begging Sam to have some down time, so he could think, so he could find the best way to help Sam. They both need some time to process everything.
Sam! Why are you running?! Geez, your brother has been looking out for you all this time, and now you ditch him!? I would slap you over the head if my TV was magic.
Okay so you get plus points for not running off with the Impala.
I kind of get why he did it, but that doesn’t mean I liked it. It was selfish, taking this and looking back at Scarecrow you have to admit that Sam’s not always thinking straight either.
Sam blew up! Okay, I knew that couldn’t have happened, but another vision child? Cool! Would make sense that there were more kids out there with the various powers, not that each kid had her or his own special power.
I was kind of surprised that Sam went to the Roadhouse, don’t know why, but I was.
Ellen: After Jo worked that job with you boys she decided she wanted to keep on hunting. I said not under my roof. And she said fine.
Yay, Jo is gone! Okay, so we’ll probably see her again, but for now she’s gone.
Ellen kind of grew on me again now. She tried to rectify the blow-up the last time they met. She in kind apologized for what happened. I understood her reactions the last time, but she took it out on the wrong people.
Ash! Okay, I like Ash. He amuses me.
Ash: And one other name, Scott Kerry.
Sam: What, you got an address?
Ash: Kind’a. The Arbor Hills Cemetery in Lafayette, Indiana. Plot 486.
Ash works fast, and they’re playing Muse in the background. Love that Ash stole the last of Sam’s beer. Ash is such a beer-whore.
I felt really sorry for Scott; having to live with that power, and having the Demon plaguing him, nobody to turn to for help. The yellow-eyed wall was creepy.
I liked the way they introduced Ava. Thinking someone was after Sam and she’s just there to warn him. Kind of mimics the way Gordon was first introduced, so was a nice little pointer that he would return.
Ava is a great character. Loved that she started thinking Sam was crazy when he tried to explain things to her, even though she was having visions.
Awww, Dean, so worried about Sammy. Hurray for Ellen for telling him where Sam was.
Ellen: Well, Dean, they say you can’t protect your loved ones. Well, I say screw that--that’s what family is for.
Okay, he kind of deserved that one. However family protects each other, especially under those kinds of circumstances!
Ava: (to Sam) Why can’t you just leave town, please? Before you blow up!
Awww, she’s great. Sam’s trying to explain everything and she’s freaking out. I think I would have had a similar reaction. Seriously, it’s weird enough that you’re having visions, now the guy you’re trying to save is telling you that are just a small piece of the puzzle.
Ava: (to Sam) Okay, you know what? Screw you buddy, okay, cos I'm a secretary from Peoria and I'm not part of anything, okay? D'you see this? I am getting married in eight weeks. I am supposed to be at home, addressing invitations, which I am way behind on by the way, but instead I drove out here to save your weirdo ass, but if you just wanna stay here and die, fine. Me? I'm due back on planet Earth.
Sam did a good job of getting her to stay though. I would have loved to see him convincing her to visit the shrink.
Ava: (to shrink) I just remembered, when I was a kid I swallowed, like, 8 things of pop rocks and then drank a whole can of coke. You don’t think that that counts as a suicide attempt, do you?
Lol, I loved Ava at the psychiatrist’s office, she was great. It’s obvious she’s never done anything like that before and was nervous as hell. Ah, so great!
Sam: Are you okay?
Ava: Am I okay?
Sam: Yeah.
Ava: I just helped you steal some dead guy's confidential psych files. I'm awesome!
I thought she was gonna start yelling at him, the ‘awesome’ caught me off guard, loved it. Okay, Ava is now one of my fave guest-girlies.
Dean: (seeing Sam through motel window) Thank God you’re okay. (sees Ava with Sam) Oh, you’re better than okay. Sam, you sly dog!
Oh, Dean you’re such a dog. Loved the relief in his voice when he found Sam, he didn’t need to be close, all he needs to know is that his brother is okay. And if he’s getting some, Dean’s convinced that Sam’s okay. Lol.
The shooting made me jump! Gordon needs a lot of violence to happen to him, lots and lots of pain. And go Dean for giving him some. Dean didn’t give it a second thought he just jumped that asshole! I have to admit I took joy in the amounts of blood coming from Gordon’s lip.
Haha, Sam watches T.J. Hooker! Dude, there are more up to date shows.
Finally he realizes he’s in trouble and calls Dean, you should apologize boy!
Haha! ‘Funky Town’. That’s an awesome code-word! I love it. Seriously!
Gordon: What? You think this is revenge?
Dean: Well we did leave you tied up in your own mess for three days. (snickers) Which was awesome. Sorry, I shouldn’t laugh.
I love when Dean chuckles. And the thought and memory of Gordon tied to a chair kept me from attacking the screen. Gordon sucks, I hate him. Which makes him a great character. I still want him to be subjected to massive amounts of pain though. Hunting Sammy, hurting Dean. Okay, so he gave us tied-up-Dean which I do enjoy, but not at the expense of Sam.
Sam: I want you out of harm’s way, Ava.
Ava: What about you?
Sam: Harm’s way doesn’t really bother me.
Ava is adorable. So worried about a guy she just met. She seemed like a normal girl, which made me like her even more.
Gordon is evil; he’d kill an innocent girl just for a little information. He’s no better than the things he hunts. Seriously, the point of the job is to save people, not use them as toys while you get information.
Loved that his reaction to Dean calling him a son of a bitch though, ‘That’s my momma you’re talking about.’
Gordon doesn’t know much; he doesn’t know the details about the demon-kids. There are a lot of other factors in play than he thinks.
Gordon’s got Road house connections!!
Dean is trying to stay cool, but his face betrays his emotions, the boy should never play poker.
Dean: Come on, man, I know Sam, okay, better than anyone. He’s got more of a conscience than I do. The guy feels guilty surfing the Internet for porn.
Haha!
I liked the discussion between Gordon and Dean about Sam’s future. Hitler seems to be movie/TV-show writers favourite in these scenarios.
Gordon doesn’t know shit though; this is the douche bag that killed his own sister.
I doubt John would have had an easier time dealing with Sam and the prospect of killing him than Dean, like Gordon hinted at.
I was freaking out when Sam was sneaking around outside. I know the boy’s smart, but still. Sneaking, ambushes and attacks are more kind of Dean’s area of expertise.
Dean screaming after the first blow, the sobs after the second, I thought my heart was going to stop.
Yay, Sam for getting the better of Gordon. Sam can kick some ass when he wants to, and he did a good job on Gordon.
Dean’s muffled ‘Son Of a Bitch’ made me giggle.
Gordon: Do it. Do it! Show your brother the killer you really are, Sammy.
(Sam slugs him)
Sam: It’s Sam.
Sam’s better than me, I would have shot that SOB! Or hit him, and kicked him a lot. Pain! Lots and lots of pain!
That was almost a hug! After Sam untied Dean. What we witnessed was the manly-brother hug, where they embrace from afar without their upper bodies actually touching.
I loved that Dean wanted to get Gordon, revenge for hurting Sam.
Sam: Gordon's taken care of. (get shot at by Gordon).
I jumped when Gordon came out guns blazing! Seriously, I’d expected him to stay down.
Dean: You call this taken care of?! (cops pull up and arrest Gordon)
Go Sammy! Calling the cops! Gordon’s fucked now!
Sam: Anonymous tip.
Dean: You're a fine, upstanding citizen, Sam.
Blaming Ellen, Dean is protective, and who could blame him? Seriously, I’m surprised he didn’t go there with guns blazing just to get the one who talked, and to make sure other hunters stay away. I don’t think it was Ellen that’s behind this.
Beluga and I discussed who the Road House leak could be, we actually think it’s Ash. This is the guy who takes beer as payment, who ratted out Jo, I don’t really think it’s that hard for him to blurt something out or to get him talking after paying for a few of his beers.
The boys in the car, nice way to tie things together.
Ava! Pick up the phone!
Dean: Well, Gordon should be reaching for the soap for the next few years at least.
Lol, Dean, aww. Sam’s comments lead me to believe we’ll see Gordon again
Dean: Dude, you ever take off like that again...
Sam: What? You'd kill me?
Dean: That is so not funny.
It’s not funny Sam, Dean’s been struggling with this for so long, you don’t get to make jokes about it yet.
Okay, I know it’s Sam that might have to be shot, but after that it’d be over for him, Dean would have to live with it afterwards!
Sam: All right, so where to next, man?
Dean: One word, Amsterdam.
Sam: Dean!
Dean: Come on, man. I hear the coffee shops don’t even serve coffee.
But Dean, you’ll have to get on a plane!
Dean would have given up hunting in a heartbeat if Sam asked. Now. It’s a complete reversal of last season, now Dean’s just along so he can protect Sam.
Sam: So if you really want to watch my back, I guess you’re going to have to stick around.
Dean: Bitch.
Sam: Jerk.
Awww, loved that little nod to the Pilot.
He said it! Dean said AVA! Not a 100% the same as my name, but close enough for me. Lol!
Dean: What’s the point of saving the world if you can’t get a little nookie once in a while, huh?
You dog!
No, Ava can’t be bad, or dead! The boys must save her! They can’t take her away! No!
The Demon came and took her away; she did not go crazy and kill the fiancée, so there!

Date: 2007-01-22 08:46 am (UTC)I'm pretty sure we'll see Jo again too, but have to say I'm happy about the reports that she won't play as big a part in the show as was originally stated.
Thank you. :)

Date: 2007-01-22 10:47 am (UTC)I loved loved loved 'funky town'. And I loved how organized they are, how well prepared. We so rarely get to see that.
I hate any comparisons to Hitler, though. I don't even mean that it makes no sense whatsoever - though it does make no sense whatsoever - it's just this line has already been played to the death about twenty years ago.

Date: 2007-01-22 01:17 pm (UTC)I agree, I love getting those little behind the scenes tidbits about how they work, and what their backup plans are.
Me too, but I think the reason it keeps popping up is because it is a good way to explain that view on these matters. Hitler has become kind of a symbol of a human gone evil. I don't think he'll stop popping up in these kinds of discussions any time soon.

Date: 2007-01-22 10:49 pm (UTC)You know, it's kinda funny how every time I see how organized the boys can be, as opposed to how messy they are usually (let's face the truth, half the time they survive the hunts more by dumb luck than anything else), I think 'how fortunate that some of what Papa Winchester beat into their heads when they were still young and impressionable, managed to stick on'. Seriously, I love these two dorks with all my heart, but they have this alarming tendency for fucking things up, so it's going to be awhile before I can admit that the credit is actually theirs. It makes sense to assume they are very skillful hunters, they would be long dead otherwise, but, on the other hand, I still can't look at them and think 'competent' and actually mean it without bursting out laughing.
Hitler is the easiest possible way to describe a good/evil dilemma and various authors are probably going to milk it for another fifty years or so. I really really wish they stopped doing that, though. It's such a cheap move. Gordon lost major points with me for that one. And I actually liked him a lot up to this point.

Date: 2007-01-23 04:59 pm (UTC)Well then I'm giving them a bit more credit than you do. Heh, I agree that they mostly survive due to luck, but they are skilled in their craftm, they would be dead by now if they weren't.
I get that. Well I pretty much hate Gordon. But in the 'love to hate him' way, so I did expect him to say something like that.

Date: 2007-01-23 04:27 am (UTC)I thought TJ Hooker was a pretty old school show to quote as well.. but it did make the comment funnier. ;)
The whole psychic 'soldiers' plot will be an interesting development!

Date: 2007-01-23 04:37 pm (UTC)Yeah, it wouldn't have worked the same if he'd said 'CSI'. I really shouldn't judge though, I watched that when I was a kid too.
Yeah, very exiting. Really wonder how it'll turn out and what other twosts are thrown our way. :D

Date: 2007-01-24 09:41 pm (UTC)I thought it's was Ash, too. But, I don't know, for a second I got a feeling in my gut that it was Ellen, only for a split second. Has there been any talk about another hunter besides Gordon? You know, interviews, Kripke? I doubt that if there is a leak, that we haven't been introduced to him/her before.
I believe Ava is alive. Seems to me like the Demon will use her as leverage of some sort. Now that she met Dean, and Dean cares about her and the Demon knows this, he'll probably use her against him. That's my view on it.

Date: 2007-01-26 10:51 am (UTC)I haven't heard of other hunters. but I'm sure they'll pop up. Thing is though, that Ellen and Ash are really the only ones who have all the info, Jo's always been in the background or sent to do other things. Anyway it has to be one of those three that's let something slip, and my money's on Ash at the moment.
I'm sure Ava is a live too. It wouldn't make much sense if she was dead. I'm just really curious about how she'll be when we see her again.
