I liked the intro to this one, mainly because I felt about as confused as the woman on screen about what was happening. Wondering what the light was and such. I knew this episode would have somewhat religious tones because of the title, but the opening still worked very well.
I liked the first scene with Sam as well. He actually looked good in the scrubs. I liked the way he talked to Gloria; already there you get the impression that this is more than just a case for him.
Sam: Why would you do that?
Gloria: Because it was God's will.
Sam: Did God talk to you?
Gloria: I get the sense God's a little busy for house calls.
I liked the woman playing Gloria as well, she did a good job, and she actually seemed really calm and fulfilled.
Haha, the look on Dean’s face, he looked a little too comfortable, for a second I was wondering if it was more than just the quarters that made the bed move.
Dean: Man, you have got to try this because there really is magic in the magic fingers.
Sam: Dude. You're enjoying that way too much. It's kinda making me uncomfortable.
Can’t blame Sam for finding that a little uncomfortable. But I do love the fact that they’re throwing more stuff like this out there. It’s funny, and come on! You’re telling me Sam never tried a bed like that?
I like their discussions on Angels. I have to say from the beginning I sided with Dean. I probably would have even if this was a different show. They both make good points, but if it was an angel why not just do the dirty work itself?
Dean: (sarcastically) That lore about unicorns is true too. I hear they ride on silver moonbeams, and shoot rainbows out of their ass.
Sam: Wait... there's no such thing as unicorns?
Dean: That's cute.
Haha, snarky!Sam, I like it. It’s a very rare thing though, because for a split millisecond I had a blonde moment and thought he was serious. That’s how seldom Sam is snarky!
Dean: Since when are you all Mr. 700 Club?
I honestly have no idea what the 700 Club is, and I’m guessing I should be happy that I don’t.
Dean: Yup, Roma Downey made him do it.
I used to watch ‘Touched by an Angel’ when I was a kid, so I got the reference, which was fun. Still, I never would have expected that show to be referenced on Supernatural.
Dean: Always remove your Christmas decorations after New Year's, or you just might get filleted by a hooker from God.
Sam: I'm laughing on the inside.
Haha. Yes, hookers from God; very, very dangerous. Well, I think we have all learned a valuable lesson about removing our Christmas decorations.
Father Reynolds: So, you're interested in joining parish?
Dean: Yeah, well you know, we just don't feel right unless we hit church every Sundays.
Father Reynolds: So where'd you say you lived before?
Sam: Uh...
Dean: Freedmont, Texas.
Father Reynolds: Really? That's a nice town. St. Thersea's parish. You must know the priest there.
Dean: Sure, yeah... no it's Father... O'Malley.
Father Reynolds: I know a Father Shawnasee.
Dean: Shawnasee. Exactly...what did I say?
Oh, Dean, you’re such a crappy liar. Was kind of obvious that Dean just wanted to get the hell out of that place as soon as possible. I can’t blame him though; preachers and churches have the same effect on me. I liked this preacher-man though he didn’t seem very preachy. He gave the boys the info they wanted without going on an on about the subject.
Dean: What's next, you're going to start praying everyday?
Sam: I do pray.
Dean: What?
Sam: I do pray everyday, I have for a while.
Dean: Things you learn about a guy.
The fact that Sam prays didn’t surprise me at all. Kind of seems like a thing he would do. However I get Dean’s reaction, he views his brother in a different way than we do, so the thought that Sam feels any different than him on the subject hasn’t necessarily crossed his mind.
Dean: I'll tell you who else had faith like that. Mom. She used to tell me when she tucked me in that angels were watching over us. In fact, that was the last thing she ever said to me.
Sam: You never told me that.
Dean: What's to tell? She was wrong. There was nothing protecting her.
Oh Dean, how is it you manage to rip apart my heart in every episode this season. I mean I need to have a doctor on standby to sew it up for me; it’s getting critical.
Dean: We just need a few odds and ends and that séance ritual in dad's journal.
Sam: Sounds great, I hope Whoopi's available.
Wow, snarky!Sam again! I’m so shocked.
Dean: If Father Gregory's spirit is around, the séance will bring him right to us. If it's him, we'll put him to rest.
Sam: What if it's an angel? It won't show, nothing will happen.
Dean: Exactly. It's one of the perks of the job, Sam; we don't have to operate on faith. We can know for sure. Don't you want to know for sure?
Go Dean. Even if it was an angel they couldn’t just leave without knowing for sure, what was happening was still affecting innocent people. Even though Sam desperately wanted to believe Dean had to push forward. I love it when he’s so sure about a case, and right.
Sam: Dude, all right, I'll admit, we've gone pretty ghetto with spell work before, but this takes the cake! I mean, a Spongebob placemat instead of an altar cloth?!
Dean: We'll just put it Spongebob-side down.
Spongebob, ugh. It would be a fitting tool to call forth evil though. ;p
The way that guy died was like taken out of one of the Final Destination movies, which I liked. Main reason I liked it was that the way it hit Dean, that it made him think a little different about everything. It worked very well considering how it hit Sam that they weren’t dealing with an angel.
Sam: Dean, what did you see?
Dean: I don't know, maybe... God's will.
I really liked this episode, it was a nice break from all the action packed episodes, not that I’m complaining, but it was nice. It’s weird though, this episode felt more like it belonged to season 1, I can’t explain.
Very well put together, this season continues to amaze me.

Date: 2007-02-09 05:56 pm (UTC)I feel sad for Sam. With his future worries I believe he needed this to be an angel, some hope of salvation. I loved the end and that Dean was perplexed. I can also see that Sam is praying every day.

I really liked the last scene to, very well done.
