roguem: (Supernatural - Supersexy)
[personal profile] roguem

The crowds have spoken, and based on the poll I figure I'll alternate between bulletpoint reviews and the long ones I did last year. Choiche of style basically boils down to how much I like the episode and/or how much time I actually have to write it.

And now it's finally time for my short review of the season opener.

Supernatural - 301 - The Magnificent Seven

  • I loved Dean in this episode. I know some people think he's actiong out of charater, but I don't think he's any different. Of course he has a more laid back attitude now. His main goals in life have been acchieved; the YED is dead and Sammy is safe... well as safe as he can be.
There were some amazing shots of Dean in this episode, especially when he opens the door right before he's knocked down by... was it Isaac? Was that even his name? Tamera's hubby.
  • Bobby was awesome in this ep. The character just gets better and better. Loved it when he yelled at Tamera, loved him taking charge and was very amused to see him in a suit, which is something that's been on my wishlist actually. Though in my head that included a shave.
  • I liked Tamera and her hubby to some degree. Tamera I liked the best of the two, and I hope we'll get to see her again. I like meeting new hunters and having them pop up once in a while.
  • The new girl, or the blonde thing, asshe's also been called. I don't know which one of the two she is, but I have to admit I didn't hate her. On the other hand she didn't have much screentime so I didn't get enough info to form a real opinion yet. Her slicing up the demons was cool, though I hated that it was done in slow motion, that would have worked so much better in regular pace, where the audience could get the same WTF feeling that Sam was supposed to have.
I do have a little theory about her in my head already, but it's not worth mentioning until I see more of her in the show.
  • The demon killing blade is something that's been in my head since the Colt was revealed. And I'm not surprised that there is one. And in my head there is a sword as well. Demons have been around for a long time, would figure there would be various demon-killing weapons.
  • Sam was cool too. Though part of me had to giggle when he ended up getting strangled, yet again. I liked the part where he scared Dean and Bobby and then pressed Dean against the dash.
  • The seven deadly sins, now that was really cool. But I have to admit that I thought they would be harder to get rid of. Part of me was thinking that tehy should be part of their own little story arc, not being killed all at once. I guess that's the only part of the episode I was lsightly disspointed about.
  • All in al I really enjoyed the episode, and I am so happy to have the show back. I can't wait to see what other nasty demons they'll meet.

I have a lot more in my head about this episode. But with the computer trouble and the new one airing tonight I figured this was the best way to go. Am looking forward to it.

Yeah, I wasn't getting how folks were saying he acted out of character. Every single thing I've heard can be backed up by something he did in the first two seasons. It's just Dean being Dean.

That's what I think as well.
It's a little more of season 1 dean, but like I wrote abovem many of the issues he had in season 2 are gone now.

I don't think Dean was acting out of character at all! He was somewhat the same actually, just even MORE rebellious and...horny than usual. ;)

Oh how I've missed Dean!

Exactly. It's just Dean being Dean.

I've missed him too. So happy to have him back.

oh yaaay!!!

do you want to know MysteryGirl's name? y'know - for your tags. ;)

i posted a few things about Dean and being OOC and the bottom line is he's not. there's more to it than that, but he's being Dean, doing Dean things and acting very Dean-like. unless your Sam, and then Dean is confusing the hell out of him with the behaviour.

:D

Sure, though I put both of them in there. ;p

Yeah, and like I wrote, the stuff Dean had to deal with in season 2 that made him more calm have been resolved now. So he can be his old self again.

Great review!! *cheers*
I really liked this episode too. I am really curious to find out more about the female hunter with the knife. I haven't thought about it but I agree, there should be more weapons than the colt; ancient ones (or older at least). I can't wait to find out more. :)

I didn't think about the scene where she's cutting their throats. I have to watch it again (to see the slow-motion). I know so many thought she was unrealistic to cut three peoples' throats but when you think about it, the entire show is a bit "fantastic". *g*

I'm looking forward to the next episode but I'm looking forward to seeing you more. I hope you can fix the computer trouble. *hearts*

Thank you. :)

I am looking forward to learning more about her, and will reserve any judgement until then.
And, yes, to me it makes sense that there would be more demon-killing weapons hidden away somewhere.

I'm just over-sensitive when it comes to the use of slow-motion. I'm not really a big fan of it, because it tends to be over-used.

Hopefully I'll get to see the new one on Sunday. I still can't believe the show is back! Yay.
I haven't dissapeared completely. Am checking in when I can, but am also hoping to get my own laptop back soon!

There were some amazing shots of Dean in this episode, especially when he opens the door right before he's knocked down by... was it Isaac?

I said the exact thing, that shot was gorgeous. Something about the shadows, it was an amazing shot. Not that Jensen isn't always pretty, but that one made me swoon.

I liked Tamara too, I would completely be up for her being in future episodes. Didn't care too much for her hubby...but he didn't need to go out like that. That made me shudder.

We need more Bobby; you can't go wrong with Bobby.

I don't like the blonde chick, Ruby..whatever her name is, she's just too...smarmy. She thinks she's better than the boys and I'm sorry...don't bring a character in on the first episode and have her be all high and mights on the brothers. The idea of her character is great, the execution...not so much.

I remember you mentioned that actually. It was an amazing shot. Just when you think the guy can't get any more good looking they throw in a shot like that.

I'm sure we'll see Tamera again at some point.
The husbands death was yucky, but I guess it served it's purpose.

Agreed! Bobby rocks!

I liked her ass-kickin' style, but I don't feel I got enough information about her to make up my mind quite yet. Actually I liked that she was a bit high and mighty and could fend for herself. The last thing I want is another helpless huntress in the show.

Tell me about it- how is it possible to make that man look prettier than he normally is *shakes head*. He's got to be one of the seven wonders- no man should be THAT pretty.

I hope so, I really liked her character and they could flesh out her back story a bit. True- it showed gluttony and that was necessary, but damn, what a way to go.

Bobby is just made of awesome- I'm really glad they started using him more in the 2nd season. Hoping to see him even more this time around.

I don't mind at all that she can fend for herself, because if I have to see another whimpering helpless woman, who's supposed to be bad-ass, I might shank someone. It was just...she was too cocky for me- hopefully she will prove me very wrong and I'll end up liking her. I want to, just hasn't happened yet.

Oh and your icon *snorts*- I looooved that line!

I couldn't agree more.

Yeah, a little more info about he backstory would be good.

I'm very happy they used Bobby so much in season 2 as well. He's a great character. I hope to see more of him in season 3 too.

I know how that works. Everybody's entitled to their oppinion. :)

Hee ^-^ Thanks.

Give Kripke about, humm, half the season and then he'll throw us some info :P

Oh I have much love for the Bobby- I'm so glad they are bringing him back more and more. I will never tire of Bobby!

Exactly- that's what is great about fandom! Everyone sees things differently :)

You're probably right.
They do like to torture us.

I am very happy they're using Bobby more as well. He's my fave of all the recurring guest stars.

Oh they love it, alright. They love to make us fangirls worry and fret over everything, lol.

Oh I adore Bobby and I couldn't be happier that he's in more episodes now. Jim Beaver is awesome!

Glad to have your reviews back! :) I had fun watching Dean just livin it up, heh. Just feel bad for Sammy who's trying so hard, aw. I loved the 'sins' idea, and Dean's ref to the movie "Seven", ha.
