Hugh Jackman Tipped for Bond Role
Nov. 1st, 2003 01:25 pmFound this on IMDB a couple of days ago. It's an interesting thought, but does Hugh really wanna tie himself to another film-series? He already is tied to "X-Men" and "Van Helsing".
Hugh Jackman Tipped for Bond Role
Australian actor Hugh Jackman is the new favorite to take over from Pierce Brosnan as the next James Bond. Brosnan plans to hang up the superspy's famous tuxedo when filming concludes on the next installment in the series - and X-Men star Jackman is thought to be top of the list of potential replacements. A source at 007 movie makers Eon says, "A lost of possible successors has been drawn up, and Hugh is at the top. He's got everything the producers are looking for - dark good looks, an athletic build, a sense of humor and box-office clout. At 35, he is also the right age." British actors Clive Owen, Ioan Gruffudd, Jeremy Northam and Paul Bettany have all been put in the frame - but they have now reportedly been eliminated. The source explains, "Owen lacks the necessary lightness of touch to make Bond a box-office success." While Bettany is "strawberry blond - and there's never been a blond 007". Bond director Lewis Gilbert adds, "You can't have someone too young playing Bond because they would never be believable in the part. And the chances of getting a superstar like Russell Crowe are slim because he'll be too expensive, he'll have all sorts of projects lined up and is unlikely to want to commit to making a series of films. Hugh Jackman clearly fits the bill."

*gasp*
DAMN! it's a rumor.. ;(
I think I would lose my mind if that happens. To have my fav actor play my fav action hero.. omg. I'm a HUGE Bond fan.. been watching it since I was a kid with my dad. Sean is still da man.. but Pierce actually started to grow on me, and I love watching him in the role now. Shame to hear he'll be stopping, but guess they do have to keep it in a certain age range. I know Roger went way past his time period, lol. Hugh would be great I think, he's so versatile in his acting, I think he could do justice to it. But yea he's already got alot on his plate already to commit to another franchise. Don't want him to stop being Wolvie! Don't know about the other contenders.

I think Roger is my fave Bond actually, Sean is Bond without a doubt, but I think Roger's my fave. I just know that I really hated George Lazenby as Bond. He was completely wrong for the part.
If they hired Russel Crowe or Paul Bettany for the role I highly doubt that I would be able to watch it. That would just turn my stomach. Of all the suggestions that I've heard Hugh is my fave for the part, not just because it's Hugh, but because none of the other candidates fill my requirements.
Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Date: 2003-11-07 11:23 am (UTC)I saw a clip the other day where they got Hugh to say "Bond, James Bond", but he did it gay, since the interview was about "The Boy from Oz" was kind of funny actually. I'll post the link if I can find it.
Hugh is a busy man, but as long as he sticks to "X-Men" I'm happy! Sean and Roger played James Bond for ages, so Hugh can play Wolverine for a while longer!
