While other studios are cutting back on big budget tentpole films, MGM has decided to do the exact opposite and recently announced a slate of tentpole films budgeted in the 150 to 200 million dollar range. Among those, which include TERMINATOR 4 and a sequel to the THE THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR, is the one prequel most of us have been waiting for ever since we first insinuated homoerotic sexual tension between a lithe hobbit named Frodo and a husky hobbit named Samwise Gamgee. That's right, not only is MGM planning to make J.R.R. Tolkien's prequel to the LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy, THE HOBBIT, but according to the article on Variety, they're planning "one or two installments" that they'll be teaming with New Line to produce and that they hope will be directed by Peter Jackson. The main point of contention that had prevented THE HOBBIT from coming to the big screen was a complex rights issue between MGM and New Line that, for all intents and purposes, wouldn't be resolved until the universe caved in on itself but someone apparently worked some magic to clear up that issue. The only question now is, are they really willing to move forward if Jackson doesn't return to direct? What do you guys think?

X2: X-Men United, the DVD hunt!
Nov. 10th, 2003 08:49 pmI finally got my hands on the "X2" Dvd today after a lot of confusion! I had put down a deposit on it a few weeks ago at a Virgin about 15 minutes walk away, so I got up early this morning and went to get it. But what did I find when I arrived at the store? It was closed down, moved to another venue that wouldn't open until next week! There was a number for costumer services on the door, so I called them, and asked them where I was supposed to get my DVD. They told me to go to the store's new location, so I did. It was empty, one or two people were painting, so I asked them where I could find the staff, and they sent me upstairs. I got a hold of a guy, and after explaining to him that I had payed my deposit and was supposed to pick it up today, he was pretty much ready to tell me to wait another week. But I said that it was the "X2" disk, so he sent me off to another Virgin store that's about 10 mins away from where I live in the other direction, so I went there. Luckily it wasn't a problem, and I got my "X2: X-Men United" Double disk DVD + a "X2" promotional CD-case. Happy I hurried back to my room and started watching the movie!
I still haven't watched the entire contents of the disk, since I only got my hands on it this morning, and had to wait for my friend to see the extras. But I did watch the movie! Am probably going to drive Camelia mad, but she's been going on about "Terminator" since we arrived so now it's my turn.
The disks are great, lots of extras, and fun stuff. The only thing that bothered me was that we can't include the deleted scenes like we could with "X-Men".
In short I'm really happy! ;)
Camelia returned from Norway yesterday, I'm really happy to have my roomy back, it's not so quiet anymore. It seemed like she had a really nice time back home, so I'm happy for her. The down-side though is that she got a could, but it's ending, so she'll be fine.
Tomorrow we'll continue filming our egg-story... Camelia's gotten a part in it, so she'll be joining me tomorrow. That'll be fun. :)
