Finally saw Daredevil yesterday. I liked it better than when I saw it at the cinema.. kind of got over the end fight issue I had. Want a sequel.. what's been taking them so long? Guess I'll just have to get my hands on the director's cut, it is supposed to be better, and might solve some of the things that did bug me. It needs a little more meat in the beginning, the relationship between Matt and Elektra just happens, and goes to intensity waaay to fast. Bullseye just seems to pop up here and there and then go a bit ballistic, he needed a bit more to do. I'm not a big Colin Farrell, but they could have given him a little more screentime maybe?

Despite what people say I liked Ben Affleck in the role as Daredevil. I'm not a big fan of Jennifer Garner either, but she did okay. All in all, I like the film, and am thinking I want to buy my own copy. :)

Now for the reason I saw the movie. It was really so I could get my comic-book-movie-rating-list in order, but it's easier said than done. My old one can be foun HERE. It's been a while, and there have been a few new comic book movies since then, so here goes.

Comic book list

1.) X-Men and X2. (X2 reviews: First Viewing, Second ViewingThird Viewing. 10836th viewing.)

I like the screenplays, acting, and that they make me think "what if?". They both bring up important issues, and made me take a closer look at human nature and prejudice. The introductions in both movies are one of my favorite things about them, Patrick Stewart's calm voice, and then we are brought into the action. Another thing I really like is that if you put yourselves in the bad guy's position, you're able to understand why they're doing what they're doing, and I really like that. Plus the Wolverine cage fight/refrigerator scene didn't hurt either.

2.) Sin City. (Review)

I do love this movie, and I'll be buying it the second the 2-disk edition is released. The film is visually stunning, and I love the fact that they used the comics as story boards, I've now read one or two of them and can totally see the scenes from the movies, incredibly faithful to the graphic novels. I really liked that it was black and white, with a few colours that pop up here and there, like Dwight's shoes or Becky's eyes. The stories are simple, and I don't know if I would have enjoyed it as much if they were taken out of the CGI/black'n white/gritty setting, and each segment made in to a separate film. It's the style and the feel that this movie delivers that kept me in my seat and enjoying myself... that and the really cool characters, especially Marv and Kevin. None of the characters are completely good, they have dark motives, and do what they have to... nobody in this town 'turns the other cheek.'

3.) Batman Begins. (Review)

It took a while for me to get hooked, but when I was hooked, I was hooked, and I really liked it. Awsome cast, that is the main reason that I'm getting this movie when it's released. I love Liam Neeson, Gary Oldman, Michael Caine & Morgan Freeman. They are some of my fave actors out there, and I thought the others did a great job as well, the only one that was kind of misplaced in my eyes was Katie, but that didn't matter. It's one of the more enjoyable double-life-as-a-superhero movies I've seen, and it's played so well; playboy by day, kicking badguy butt at night. I liked the use of color in this film as well, they were fond of the brown palette, but it worked. Lastly, I'm looking forward to the sequel!

4.) Constantine. (Reviews: 01, 02.)

I liked it, I must say. It's not the deepest movie I've seen, but I thought the visuals, style and such is really cool. I like the camera angles and color use, and I think hell is really well made as well. The role fit Keanu Reeves and his limited facial expressions very well. The character, Constantine, is a dark and serious type, and that just worked very well for him. I really liked Rachel Weisz's character as well, gave another view to the situation, a more emotional element to the film. The film has been compared to The Matrix and The Exorcist, which is kind of weird as I'm not a huge fan of either of them.

5.) Daredevil.

Yes, this movie has plotholes and a short end-fight. But the characther of Matt Murdoc is likeable. He's been through so much shit in his life, and has all right to crawl into a corner and cry, but he doesn't, he makes the best of it and stands up for what he believes in. (Read review above for the rest.)

6.) The Punisher.

It was hard to place this movie in the list, just because it is a rather simple film... It struck me more as a B-movie than a block-buster, but I had fun with it. I liked Thomas Jane as Frank Castle, and that he doesn't let his tragedy stop him. It does handle a subject I find interesting; does one man have the right to be judge and jury, even if the people he's killing off are are people that everybody knows are criminals? "It's not revenge, it's punishment." Frank Castle is a rather brooding character, but it works for him, he's driven in his search for punishment, and he's actually able to help some people along the way.

7.) Fantastic Four. (Review)

This movie was hard to place in the list too, because it is the most up-beat of the bunch, and works on another level than the others. I was an okay movie, not fantastic, but innocent fun, and it might actually end up in my collection at some point... It had some of the same structual faults as Daredevil, but I did like the characters, and it's obvious that this film is just a buildup for the next movie, and I will watch the next one. The end fight was way to short, there was this big build up and the pffft, not what I expected. In short, much better than I'd expected, but not what I would be jumping up and down for.

8.) Hellboy. (Review)

I did enjoy this film, but there was something about that film that bugged me, I just can’t put my finger on it. There were some, as my friend Even would say, logical flaws. There was one of the crucial moments towards the end, and a choice, that didn’t make sense to me, with respect to the powers that the characters had. Also I felt that some of the characters were underdeveloped, there was just something missing. Baby HellBoy was adorable tho. It was fun and I remember having fun with it, but it wasn't what i expected.

9.) Hulk. (Review)

I have no wish to see this movie again. The movie was long, obviously trying to be artsy, which just ended up looking silly. I mean, the cartoon boxes work in a couple of scenes, but it was overdone... we did not need to see a helicopter from five different angles at the same time. "the Hulk cgi is NOT as good as the people behind this movie claim, he looks like one of Shrek's buddies. Comparing this to Gollum is a F*** insult to Weta, Andy Serkis and Peter Jackson." (<- from my review.) However, what I'm giving this movie a little plus for is that I liked the Bruce Banner character, he's likeable. Now, Bruce Banner is a sulky characther, but you understand why he's sad and he makes an effort not to be too much of a downer, he's serious without being whiny.

10.) Spider-Man.

I know I'm going agains the flow here, but I just cannot stand this movie. Peter Parker is a whiny little brat, and I seriously doubt that he would find anything positive about a puppy. He whines, and he sulks, and he's crabby all the time. Of course he has a right to mourn his uncle, but the movie starts out with him being whiny. And are you trying to tell me that a kid that gets bitten by a radioactive spider doesn't go to a doctor or tell the scientist people what happened? Come on! Kirsten Dunst (who I actually like as an actress) was totally mis-cast in this movie. I just remember squirming everytime she was on screen. The movie is a downer, not one happy person, well, maybe the aunt, but she doesn't have much screen-time. Everybody is sad about everything... Geez! Never ever going to see this movie again.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Number 5, 6 and 7 on the list are kind of floating in their spaces because they're really different movies and hard to compare. They're sharing their positions on the list, 4 and 8 kind of flows into them as well, but on another level, it's hard to explain, but there it is... comments?
