Are Plans for 'Serenity 2' in the Works?

The ever-lovable, wonder-writer/director Joss Whedon needs to get a few projects on the go. After running himself ragged with Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, he brought the world a small helping of Firefly, a pretty kick-arse movie adaptation Serenity, almost made Wonder Woman, and continued the story of the slayers in comic form. Having handed over the reigns on that, what's left to do? It's not like Veronica Mars is still around for him to guest on! Well, he's still working on his supernatural Goners script after getting a bunch of studio notes, but Whedon never takes it easy, so it's not a surprise that after reviving his first beloved series, there's rumors of a Serenity 2.

Oh yes, the Browncoats might come back -- not necessarily to the big screen, but to DVD. While the film's box office didn't live up to expectations, it has, unsurprisingly, had a heck of a stint on disc. Moviehole recently chatted with Alan Tudyk (Wash), and he said: "They had to put [the new DVD] out because they've been selling out of the other one, and so Universal's like 'So, let's do another one.' And now... there's now a chance there's going to be another movie." Well, this is just about the most solid Whedon rumor you can get. While he always has a million potential projects swimming in his head, it's big news if the studios can see an audience and get interested in the idea.

So, does this make you giggle with schoolgirl-like glee? If so, keep picking up those DVDs and we might just see Serenity fly again! But heck, they could even keep the ship docked the entire time and show a lot of Summer Glau butt-kicking. Who wouldn't be up for more of that!?

Hi boys and odd, smooth, compellingly bumpy non-boys. I'm in Liverpool, on Alexis' lap... sorry, laptop, checking in and seeing all sorts of nonsense about a sequel to something. I did run into someone at Forbidden Planet, and he said something about that I ought to make more things, possibly art things, and I agreed. He didn't know the fellow I was with was Brian Hitch but it was 'cause I'm so, yeah, awesome. Yes, Warren and Natalie and Brian and I had dinner, after nattering on for SFX at the hotel (I like that mag) and it was blazingly fun. They're all three multitalented, urbane, and surprisingly sweet. I'm none of those things but I came the farthest so they had to be nice. BUT...

There's no sequel, no secret project regarding Serenity or somesuch and I'm not even sure how anyone thought there was talk there. I've seen Nathan and Tim (and Summer and Alan) recently because they're my friends because I'm so, yeah, awesome. So let's put that to bed and smother it with a pillow.

Fun fact: Didn't read the thread, but as for James playing Shinzon: that's the reason he left for darkest Africa at the end of season six. We were giving him the time off to do the film. When it didn't happen, the course was already set. But he got a nifty soul and that worked out okay.

Oh, and I heard Marvel pushed back X-Men 18? I've delivered 19, and Johnny's working steadily, so blame the marketplace. In fact, overturn the marketplace, the way Jesus did when he was cranky about that thing that time.

Why are the cool people in London, at Forbidden Planet when I'm not there? Come on! :p
As for the news about a Serenity sequel, I'm not that suprised really, Joss has focused his attention to other projects, and I'm sure we'll see more great things from him in the future. I'm not saying I'm not dissapointed, I would have loved to see more from that universe, but asking Joss to top that movie... that's a pretty big demand.

Got back about 2 hours ago. Had a great time.

Weird thing was this morning, I kept waking up and then trying to get out of bed before my alarm went off, it happened like 2-3 times, so weird. Was a bit hard to get up when the alarm finally went off though, hehe.

Took a while before I got to leave the house after breakfast this morning as I wasn't feeling to good. Luckily it passed and I was out the door.
Finally got up there at about 12:00 and met up with [profile] isil80. She'd been kind enough to grab me a que ticket for Alan Tudyk. We decided to walk around and have a look at what was in the stalls at what they had to offer. I ended up buying the 'Serenity' collectors cards and an X-men key chain. Very happy about that. Bought some other stuff, but that's birthday presents, so I can't disclose that here.
There was a lot of cool stuff, and seriously, if I was rich I'd totally go crazy shopping there. No that I really need any of that stuff, but... yeah, I'll shut up, hehe.
We met up with [personal profile] laraneia and her hubby after a while. I managed to snap some pics of Alan Tudyk, Ron Glass, Jenny Agutter, Corey Haim and Corey Feldman, and some of 'the french chick', Mira Furlan
Finally [profile] isil80's number was up to go get Corey Haim's autograph, so we followed her over, and basically watched her get it. Afterwards it was my turn to go meet Alan. Now, here's the thing, I haven't been nervous before any of these meetings since Billy Boyd, and now standing in this que suddenly I'm nervous again! By the time it's my turn I've managed to calm myself, but get a little confused when it looks like both Alan and his convention-asistant both want to shake my hand. I grab Alan's hand of course and say 'hi', am met by a big smile, he signs my picture and notices another one of the convention people standing ready with my camera and asks if I want a picture too, and I manage to say 'yes, please'. I know it was polite, but I felt silly saying it. I'm such a dweeb. I get my picture, thank him, say 'have a nice day', which seemed to suprise him, and then I left. Was very nice, and he truly seemed like a very nice guy.
We kept walking and looking at the stalls, [personal profile] laraneia's husband decider to go get Marc Singer's autograph. I honestly have no idea who that is, apparantly he was in something called 'Beastmaster' and 'V'.
I left just as they started packing up, think it was about 17:30. Had been a good day, so I said goodbye to my friends, and hopped on the train back to London, where I got stuck sitting with 7-9 guys who very talking about football (soccer) and drinking beer.
Have taken it easy since I got back, relaxed and watched TV. Picspam from the event to follow. :)
