I think I have to stop watching movies, I haven't got a kick out of it in a long time, and "Troy" did nothing to change that.

It was an O.K. movie, but I didn't get emotionally involved in what happened, there was one scene toward the end where I started caring a little, but I'll write more about that in the spoiler section.

I didn't expect much, it was good, but I probably won't buy the DVD.

The battle scenes have been compared with LOTR, saying they're good, but doesn't come near to LOTR. This is true, they're good, but can't compare to LOTR.

The acting was good, Orlando wasn't as sucky as expected, but... lets say I was able to watch his scenes without giggeling... too much. :P
Brad Pitt was good, but it was hard to let go of the fact that he's Brad Pitt. In my eyes he's better suited to play contemporary roles, not historic ones.
Eric Bana did good, he's a good actor, and is still at that stage where he gives it his all, without going over the top.
Sean Bean, as good as ever.
Brian Cox, the man I love to hate... heh. Well, didn't really care until a point toward the end, but it's true; he really is a good psycho.
Of the main three females in this movie, it was Saffron Burrows that I liked the most. I've never liked her before, but I liked her in this movie.
It was nice to see Tyler Mane again, even though he didn't have much screen time.
Now the old squad, I  don't really have a clue. I don't feel like writing anymore, they were good.

I'll have to admit that I agree with some of the reviews I've read. This is a good movie, with a lot of really good shoots and scenes, but it lacks the emotion. The point where I started caring was just because it hit a personal aspect of my life, if that were not the case I doubt I would have gotten much out of it.

What gets me is that the guy who write the screenplay grew up with this story, and still they managed to turn in into a Hollywood thing.

The spoler part of my review )

Inconsistencies with the Illiad. )

Can't come up with anything else right now... might write more later.

Had a nice evening with the girls yesterday. I wasn't feeling a 100% coz I'd got my period. Luckily I wasn't totally messed up, and the painkillers seemed to work.

[livejournal.com profile] beluga  is doggie sitting, so we joined her for the evening. We didn’t really do much, just chatted and reminisced about old songs, sung a couple, even though I can’t sing. :p Ended up turning on CD’s instead.

Saw J.C. Chavez on Top of the Pops, I was let down… that boy has a strong voice, why doesn’t he use it?

Anyway, we watched a little telly as well. I don’t remember much else. I always get a bit groggy when I have my period. I got home late. Got rather sick. Don’t think I slept more than a total of two hours last night. Pain killers wouldn’t work… and still won’t. Trying to focus on other stuff.

Anyways, over to more positive stuff:

The case of the missing battery. )

Old birthday cards. )

Pirates of the Caribbean, second viewing. )

Think that's it for today. Am leaving for Germany on Wednesday, [livejournal.com profile] beluga  will be joining us. Will be muchly fun. :)

Mom's home!
We got mom home today. It's nice to have her back, but she has to relax and stay off her feet so now it's up to my dad and me to keep the house in shape. That's not so easy when mom just can't relax because she keeps coming up with things she has to have done. I'm doing my best at keeping her off her feet. We can't have any visitors the first week because risk of infections, doesn't really help that I'm still getting over the flu. I don't mind not having any people over, the most important thing now is that my mom gets back on her feet. I'll hook up with my friends outside the house. ;)

Makeover day.
I had my makeover thingy on thursday, it was pretty fun actually. I just got there and a woman did my hair and makeup. I had to wait a little while before my photo session. That was pretty fun, my photographer was good looking, so it wasn't hard to smile. ;) When I was finished I had to wait an hour to see my pictures, so I went to a little cafe and just relaxed with a fruit salad. I went back to studio when I was finished to have a look at the pictures. I don't usually take good pictures, so I wasn't really expecting anything, but it actually looked good! I was pretty happy with the result. I'll get an album with the pictures in february, so then I'll get a real look at them and will pass my final judgment. Am looking forward to that. The reason for having to wait that long is because I'm in Norway now, and won't be back in London until february, so they said that they'll send it then. I haven't told my parents about this, I want to surprise them with it when I come back for easter-break. :)

"The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King"
I think I've decided that this is the best one. I've had trouble deciding, but that's mostly because there's soooo much happening in "ROTK" that I'm still trying to wrap my head around it. I absolutely loved this movie, I cried, I laughed, I wanted to kill some people, and give comforting hugs to others.
There were of course some things that bugged me, and things I missed from the book. Legolas' lines left much to be desired, but I guess my feelings on that point are clouded by the fact that I think Orland Bloom is a shitty actor. I love Legolas in the book, and think that he could have been done much better.

Now, to the things I missed from the book:
Nr.1: The Cirith Ungol storyline was severely cut down and I found it way to easy. I was looking forward to Sam's singing, but that was not included. I had a suspicion of this when I bought the CD, but still had a little hope. I know it won't be included in the extended vrs, just because of the way the scene ended.
Nr.2: There was no House of healing scene. I know that these have been shot, because there are pictures! I'm hoping the extended vrs will make up for this, but time will tell. I just't felt that a whole chunk in the middle was severely trimmed down. I understand why, but I still missed them.
Nr.3: Most people were pissed because Saruman was cut from the last film, and I understand the frustration, even though the scenes at Orthanc were nicely handled, I did miss him being there. Am hoping the extended vrs will make up for this, and I know Chrisopther Lee agrees with me. ;)

That's all I can think of right now, even though I know there was something else. As I wrote yesterday, most people seem to feel that the ending goes on for to long. I say to them; "watch it again, and see how you feel".I really loved the last scenes, and was savoring them, because I knew that the movie would soon be over, and there's nothing like this to look forward to next
year. Also, the ending should have been a hell of a lot longer, if they'd followed the book.
There it is, it's all over. No more Hobbits or wizards. Nothing, it's no more. No more stages of the journey. What are we supposed to look forward to now? Tell me, please!
I must admit that I'm hoping for "The Hobbit" in 2006, like the rumors have been implying. But what I really want is "The Return of Frodo", "The amazing adventures of Hobbits". Whatever!!! I want more!
I'm going to see "ROTK" again, after christmas eve most likely. Am really looking forward to it as this will allow me to enter Middle-Earth again, and maybe wrap my head around the pieces I'm still trying to remember.

I went to see "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl" on Sunday with three friends, they all loved it. Here's my Review:

This movie is quite entertaining and actually well scripted for a Disney-pirate-movie.
The plot is simple; a young blacksmith, Will Turner, (Bloom) is forced to join forces with the pirate Jack Sparrow (Depp) after his love interest, Elizabeth Swann, (Knightley) is abducted by a band of ruthless, ghostly pirates, commanded by Captain Barbossa (Rush).
In addition we have miss Swann's father; Governor Weatherby Swann (Pryce), and the man that wants to marry her; Commodore Norrington (Davenport).

I actually thought the movie was a bit too long, there were times under some of the fighting scenes where I just wanted them to finish. (And this is coming from a girl that loves action movies). The action scenes are engaging non the less, the set design is elaborate, visual effects are great, the performances are great, except for one or two. I also enjoyed the humor in this film, it didn't make me laugh hysterically, but kept me amused and interested, but most of the credit goes to Johnny Depp for that one.

Now that I've had two days to think about it, I think the things that bugged me most was that I felt the movie was a bit too long, they kept going back and forth, maybe one time too many.

Now over to the performance ratings.

Johnny Depp is brilliant as always in the role of Captain Jack Sparrow. Sometimes it seems like he doesn't even have to try when he's acting. I wasn't watching this movie comparing him to previous roles, because he WAS Captain Jack Sparrow.

Orlando Bloom... wait.. *builds a fortress with the highest and most elaborate security available, to keep out Bloomettes*. I'm sorry to say that I don't even think Bloom tried to get into his part in this movie. Granted, he's supposed to be a careful young man, but... ah... I didn't really care about his character. There's one scene in this movie where he's angry and hits the table with his fist. All I have to say to that is that even I could have hit that table harder. My friend, who is a rabid Bloom fan, even had to admit that he could have done better.

I think Keira Knightley did a wonderful job, and I liked her character. I'm so sick of the hysterical whimpering women in this kind of movies, so it was so nice to see a woman with brains and courage. Though after the movie a couple of people said they thought she was too smart for a woman of that time, I don't.

Geoffrey Rush is another one on the main cast list I know could have done a better job. Now don't get me wrong, he did a good job, but I know he could do better. I mean he's a big bad ghost pirate, but I didn't find him intimidating, at all.

Jack Davenport, who some might know from the BBC-show "Coupling", plays Commodore Norrington. I have to admit that when he first showed up on screen I started laughing, but I don't think he deserved that. He did a really good job with the little screen time he had. There was only one time he had that semi-desperate-Steve-face and I half expected him to shout "Susan!", or in this case "Elisabeth!". The fact is that I really liked his character toward the end and had sympathy for him.

In closing I will admit that I'll probably buy this movie when it's released on DVD, but I wont be attacking the sales clerk if they're sold out the day I'm there. I might even be waiting until the price drops a bit. I'll recommend the movie to the people that like these kinds of movies, and the rabid fan girls out there, because it is worth the trip to the cinema. Enjoy me 'arties!
